Company History and Press Releases

Fall 2002 - HotSpot Management LLC is founded by Rob Stephens and Todd Mulholland. Programming and development work commences to deliver new services and tools to the 'by owner' vacation rental market.

August 2003 - HotSpot Management launches its one-of-a-kind state and local sales/lodging tax compliance service. Spotpay eCheck is also launched to easily and inexpensively facilitate payments between renters and owners.

September 2003 - A key partnership agreement is formed between HotSpot and leading vacation rental websites-VRBO, A1vacations, Greatrentals, Cyberrentals and Rentors.org. The agreement includes exclusive marketing of the sales and lodging tax service by these leading vacation rental websites.

May 2004 - HotSpot implements significant functionality improvements to the sales & lodging tax service.

December 2004 - Kim Stephens, a CPA with 15 years of accounting and business experience joins HotSpot to lead the day-to-day operations.

July 2005 - HotSpot enters into a series of agreements with WVR and VRBO. WVR (now Homeaway) had purchased a number of leading vacation rental brands including A1vacations, greatrentals, and cyberrentals. In a series of transactions HotSpot sells certain technology and development rights to WVR. HotSpot retains the Sales & Lodging Tax Services and enters into an exclusive 3-year marketing agreement with WVR and VRBO. HotSpot co-founder Todd Mulholland joins Rentors.org, then a joint venture between WVR and Homeaway.

March 2006 - HotSpot completes a major development initiative to enhance and improve the functionality and the software engine which drives and manages the sales & lodging tax service.

May 2008 - HotSpot launches SpotPay Credit Card, a simple and affordible solution for vacation home owners to collect credit card payments from renters.
