Company History
2002 - HotSpot Management LLC is founded by Rob Stephens and Todd Mulholland. Programming and development work commences to deliver new services and tools to the vacation rental market.
2003 - HotSpot launches its one-of-a-kind sales and lodging tax compliance service. Spotpay eCheck is also launched to easily and inexpensively facilitate electronic check payments between guests and owners.
2003 - A key partnership agreement is formed between HotSpot and leading vacation rental websites-VRBO, A1vacations, Greatrentals, Cyberrentals and Rentors.org. The agreement includes exclusive marketing of the sales and lodging tax service by partner vacation rental websites.
2004 - HotSpot releases significant software and functional improvements to the sales & lodging tax service.
2004 - Kim Stephens, a CPA with 15 years of accounting and business experience joins HotSpot to lead the day-to-day operations.
2005 - HotSpot enters into a series of agreements with WVR and VRBO. WVR (now Homeaway) purchased a number of leading vacation rental brands including A1vacations, greatrentals, and cyberrentals. In a series of transactions HotSpot sells certain technology and development rights to WVR. HotSpot retains the sales and lodging tax services and enters into an a long term marketing agreement with WVR(Homeaway) and VRBO.
2006 - HotSpot completes a development initiative to enhance and improve the functionality and the software platform which drives and manages the sales & lodging tax service.
2008 - HotSpot launches SpotPay Credit Card, a simple and affordable solution for vacation home owners to collect credit card payments from guests.
2009 - A redesigned and updated HotSpottax.com website front-end is released.
2011/2012 - HotSpot embarks on an initiatives to develop software and functionality to integrate its proprietary tax engine directly into web-based reservation platforms. The integrated model will allow HotSpot to provide real-time tax rates to reservation and booking platforms, capture transaction information and facilitate the filing and payment of the required taxes, directly from the booking process. |
